At Hoedspruit Christian School, our aim is NOT to send any homework home. The AEE system is designed so that if your child completes his/her allocated number of pages for the day, then they will have no homework to take home. If they have not completed their pages, the remaining work is to be done at home. Please take note of the below points:
Our system calls for a large amount of reading. Reading aloud needs to be done at home as well as during school time. There is compulsory verbal reading in PACES from Grade 1–4.
Parents must please check their child’s goals at the end of school as sometimes they do not write up their incomplete goals as homework.
HCS aims to teach kids to be at a place where they only need to PREPARE for the next day at home. This preparation includes setting the next day’s goals and studying for Check Ups and Self Tests. All this preparation is training the students to be ready for their tertiary studies. Students from the AEE system excel in university!
Please can parents ensure that even a subject such as Life Orientation which is not a PACE subject, but still a subject that every school offers, is also counted as homework and is not ignored.
Remember to sign the homework book each day
If your child is unable to complete their homework, please write us a note in the homework book so that we know you are aware of the situation. Please encourage your child to complete his/her homework. Detention is issued if homework is not done and no note is written
Students need to prepare for check-ups and Self Tests – they do this by cross-referencing, a process that they are taught.
Colouring must be done at home, it takes too long to do in class.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school should you have any questions regarding the above information.
